As you all know SolidWorks 2007 Service Pack 3.0 and newer uses product activation as means to enforce the licensing rules. So how does this really affect you? SolidWorks now takes some data that is specific to your computer and links your serial number to that machine.

The most important thing to remember is that you need to break that link BEFORE you obsolete the old computer and take it off line.

If you do not, you will not be able to activate your new machine! It is very easy to do

1.    Before you take your computer off line, Launch SolidWorks

2.   Click HelpàTransfer License

3.   Choose a Product (most likely SolidWorks Office/Office Pro/Office Premium)

4.   It is best to choose Automatically Over the Internet

5.   Now you will be able to activate your new machine
