R&D Technologies Weekly Tech Tip

Topic: Curve Through XYZ Points

SolidWorks has the ability to create a 3D spline based curve through a series of points (InsertàCurveàCurve Through XYZ Points). The points can be generated outside of SolidWorks and imported. The easiest way to do it is use Excel. If you create a worksheet that only contains 3 columns of data (Column A is x, Column B is y Column C is z) you can save it as a text file (tab deliminated). When you bring up the Curve Property Manger, you can click the browse button and bring in that data. The best part is that you can use the power of Excel to generate a complex curve and then just bring it into SolidWorks
