Sketching Concepts
Sketching in SolidWorks is the basis for creating features.
Features are the basis for creating parts, which can be put
together into assemblies. Sketch entities can also be added to
drawings.

User Interface
Since most 2D CAD and SolidWorks
are applications in the Microsoft® Windows environment,
tool buttons, toolbars, and the general appearance of
the windows look similar. However, many aspects of the
environment differ.

Drawings
You can generate
drawings in SolidWorks the same way you would generate
them in your 2D design tools. However, creating 3D
models and generating drawings from the model has many
advantages.

Approach to Modeling
Traditional drawing programs and
SolidWorks have fundamentally different approaches. In
traditional CAD, you design in a 2D environment. In
SolidWorks, you design in a 3D environment, and and you
create 2D drawings based on the 3D model.
